About This Site

This site is an educational explainer on democratic socialism. It exists for educational purposes: to help a general reader understand what democratic socialism is, how it differs from adjacent systems, and what the strongest arguments on every side actually are. We abbreviate democratic socialism as DemSoc after this first mention. It is not advocacy, and it is not opposition. Our aim is to present the topic fairly enough that readers can reach their own conclusions.

What we try to do

Four commitments guide every page.

• Define terms precisely and use them consistently. The taxonomy is the reference for the core terms, and other pages link to it rather than redefining them.
• Classify every real-world example honestly. When a country is a social democracy or a mixed economy rather than a democratic socialist state, we say so, even when the example is commonly cited otherwise.
• Steelman both critiques and responses. Before publishing an objection or a defense, we ask whether an informed proponent or opponent would accept it as their best case. The critiques and responses page is built entirely on this rule.
• Distinguish established fact, inference, and opinion. Contested claims are attributed to those who make them rather than asserted in our own voice.

How we handle sources

We try not to state a specific fact without a basis for it. Where a claim rests on data, history, or a particular person's statement, we work from primary or high-quality references and list them on the sources page. We do not invent citations, and where a claim cannot be verified we prefer to state it more generally or leave it out rather than dress it up.

Our voice and independence

The site is written in an unattributed editorial voice, the plural we, and it carries no personal bylines. This is deliberate: the goal is to keep attention on the arguments rather than on any author. The site is informational only. It does not collect personal data, and it has no comment or contact mechanism.

A note on scope
